My 2017 Goals and How To Plan Your Year

2017 is officially upon us. Time to get rolling.

I’ll be posting my 2016 Yearly Review in a few days, but ahead of that, I wanted to look at my 2017 plan, and why I plan the way I do.

As a part of my annual review, I set goals for the next year to help guide my work. It’s an excellent exercise to help you hone in on what you need to do.

What I Plan

I try to keep an open mind about what projects I’m going to work on, and what might pop up as the year goes by, so I don’t focus too much on the exact projects. Instead, I’m more focused on the how and the why of what my overall business is doing.

I plan things like content goals, total number of projects, reach, and focus.

What my goals look like

The one thing I try to do is keep my goals simple. My 2016 goals are still hanging on the wall in direct view of where I’m writing this. They are all mostly short and too the point. My list for 2016 had 10 goals. I made progress on all of my goals, though several weren’t completed. For me, that’s not quite the point. It’s about the journey.

Formatting wise, I really do strive to be simple. Goals from 2016 included:

Release 52 YouTube Videos

Get Kristen a New Car

Short. To the point. Very actionable. That’s what I’m looking for.

What are my 2017 plans and goals?

Here’s my official plans and goals for the year:

So that’s what I’m working on this year.

I’m hoping to grow at least 3 Subscription Boxes to 300+ subscribers. I already run 1 that is over that size, but getting to 3 will be a challenge.

I have 2 major product launches planned for this year. I’ll be discussing both here at some point, but there are big, tent pole level projects. Each could be their own company. I’m really excited to get both running.

I’m focusing on my YouTube channel. Video is important to me, and I’m currently treating it as both a personal vlog-like channel, and also as a place to post videos related to running my business. I haven’t fully realized what strategy to use for YouTube yet, but I’m still experimenting. Expect to see a lot on the channel this year.

I’m also focused on this site, and helping over 1000 people this year. I do have a really basic metric I’m using to track that, and that will probably come into play later in the year. For now, if I’ve helped you with your business, send me a message and let me know!

How to Plan Your 2017

Be simple.

Be realistic.

Decide what’s most important to you.

Focus on the things you are best at.

Finally, take out a notebook and actually write down your plans and goals. Better yet, get a giant sheet of paper to write them on, and then hang them up near where you work. Look at them daily.

What are you most excited about in 2017?

What are you most afraid of?

I’m really excited for what 2017 holds, and I’m excited to see a few things I’ve been working on for a long time come into the light. Can’t wait to show you all everything that’s going on!
